Perception and the Primary/Secondary Quality Distinction

Underlying substance has primary: shape, size, movement etc., texture, and "impenetrability impenetrability" (Boyle) or "solidity" (Locke)

Secondary qualities (e.g. colour, smell, taste) are powers to cause ideas in us.
